Power glitch hits Line 1 in morning rush hour

THE operation of Metro Line 1 started resuming normal operation at 8:58am after service between Jinjiang Park Station to Xujiahui Station was suspended for nearly three hours, the city's metro operator said.

The suspension was caused by  power glitch between Shanghai South Railway Station and Shanghai Indoor Stadium Station at 5:56am.

As of 8:03, 315 passengers on the train that got stuck between Caobao Road Station and Shanghai Indoor Stadium Station were evacuated.

Metro Line 1 is one of the busiest commuting line in Shanghai, running through city hubs, including People Square, Xujiahui, train stations and populated residential areas. It connects with Line 2, Line 3, Line 4, Line 5, Line 8, Line 9, Line 10 and Line 11.

The Metro operator said at 6:38am that trains were traveling at a limited speed from Xinzhuang Station to Shanghai Railway Station. The operation suspension was announced at 7:47am. To divert passengers, the Metro operator arranged shuttle buses running between Xinzhuang to Xujiahui.

"We were asked to take Line 3 at Shanghai South Railway Station. The station was completely overwhelmed," a passenger surnamed Yu told Shanghai Daily that he was about to take Line 1 at 7:40 this morning.

Affected passengers were diverted to take shuttle buses or other Metro lines.
