Photo exhibition to mark 20 years of Hong Kong's return

AN exhibition of photos taken by film makers about shikumen, a unique style of architectures in Shanghai, kicked off today in Shanghai to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong.

The exhibition, organized by the city's Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, the government of Huangpu District and some other parties, showcases photos taken by nine film makers from Shanghai and Hong Kong, including the 96-year-old actress Qin Yi.

The exhibition will run till the end of year at Cathay Theatre.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition on Friday was also a celebration for famous Hong Kong actress Wang Danfeng's winning of the life lifetime achievement award in Chinese movies at this year's Shanghai International Film Festival.

Wang was born in 1924 and graduated from Shanghai Patriotic Girls Middle School. She spent most of her career as a movie actress in Shanghai and moved to Hong Kong later.

A cultural innovation club was also established at the ceremony to promote communication and innovation of young film makers in Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Two salons will be organized each year and the first in next month. A series of short films, selected from a competition in Hong Kong to show local life, will also be screened in Shanghai then.
