Orange alert issued for flight delays, cancellations

An orange alert for “severe” flight delays and cancellations was issued at Shanghai’s two airports today due to the approach of Typhoon Nakri.

Capacity at both Hongqiao International Airport and Pudong International Airport will be reduced 30 percent, the air traffic regulator said today.

About 50 flights were canceled at the airports, according to the airport authority.

Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines canceled 14 domestic flights.

The Civil Aviation Administration uses a four-level alert system for flight delays and cancellations. Blue indicates the flights are operating normally. A red alert is for “especially severe” delays.
