Omega-3 helpful in cancer prevention and treatment: local health forum

OMEGA-3, a fatty acid usually found in fish oil, has been found to have positive effects in cancer prevention and treatment, as well as many chronic diseases like heart diseases and diabetes, experts told the International Conference on Omega-3 and Human Health in Shanghai today.

Professor Jing X. Kang from Harvard Medical School was honored on the conference for his contribution on Omega-3 research, said Shanghai Health Education Institute, the conference organizer.

Omega-3 is found useful in defending humans from smog damages. A research conducted by Fudan University found PM2.5 in smog is related with cerebral and cardio vascular disease, respiratory disease and diabetes, while nutrients like Omega-3 and vitamins can improve the body’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects to protect the body from the damages caused by air pollution, experts said.
