Number of drivers ordered to re-sit traffic-rules exam surges amid crackdown on traffic offenses

SOME city drivers have been caught unable to answer questions regarding the new local traffic rules and about details of the ongoing campaign targeting traffic offenses when taking compulsory written exams after being punished by traffic police on the road.

More than half of the nearly 50 examinees failed the exams held today at the Vehicle Management Bureau. All of them are drivers who had 12 demerits recorded on their licenses
Zhu Bin was one of the failed examinees. His score was 89 out of 100, while he needed 90 to pass the exam.
“I would have passed the exam if I had correctly answered two or three more questions about the new ban, ” he told Shanghai Daily.
Some examinees alleged they had been preparing for the exam for a whole week by taking “practice exams” online, but never expected those new questions to appear.
Police said they hope the drivers will keep updating their knowledge of the traffic rules.
About 200 drivers usually sit the exams at the bureau on average each day, but the number of examinees surged in last month with the citywide traffic campaign ongoing, according to the bureau.
