Movies of late super star Leslie Cheung to be on show at film festival

THE 19th Shanghai International Film Festival will screen seven representative movies of the late Hong Kong actor Leslie Cheung, officials said today.

The festival will run from June 11 to 19.

These movies offer a retrospective look at the film actor's different performing styles, including "A Chinese Ghost Story," "Days of Being Wild," "Once A Thief," "All's Well, Ends Well," "Bride with White Hair," "Moonlight Express" and "Double Tap." They cover varied genres of romance, thriller, comedy and drama.

According to the organizers, the film exhibition pays tribute to Cheung's devotion to cinema, and his artistic achievements. During his film career of about 24 years, Cheung starred in 56 movies. His movies and songs have also largely influenced the post-1970s and 1980s generations.

One of Cheung's most impressive characters on screen was Peking Opera singer Chen Dieyi in mainland director Chen Kaige's award-winning film, "Farewell My Concubine." He also stunned movie buffs with his acting in Wong Kar-wai's famous movies "Happy Together," "Ashes of Time" and "Day of Being Wild."
