Survey: more Shanghai men love plump women

SHANGHAINESE men prefer plump women more than do men elsewhere in China, a survey by matchmaking website jiayuan.com revealed today, White Day.

The survey involved 18,019 respondents nationwide regarding their preference of the opposite sex.

White Day is a custom that started in Japan in which men given chocolate or other gifts to women who gave them chocolate on Valentine’s Day.

More than 20 percent of men in Shanghai said they love plump women, and 17 percent said they are mainly attracted by women's breasts, second only to men in Guangdong Province.

A total of 18.6 percent of Shanghainese men said they mainly are attracted by women's rear ends, which also was tops for that category nationwide, the survey found.

Meanwhile, 55 percent of local men said they are most "vulnerable" to the eyes of females, also ranking No. 1 nationwide, according to the survey.

"Women with big eyes can trigger men's protective desires, and it is believed that women with big eyes are usually tender," said Zhang Jiarui, a consultant with the website.

Nationwide, the most attractive facial features of women were eyes, mouth, hair and teeth, male interviewees said, the survey showed.

Female respondents said they are most attracted by men's eyes and hair.

Overall, only eight percent of male respondents said they like women with short hair.

Zhang said short-haired women usually present an independent and capable impression, which makes men feel that they are not easy to get close to.

A total of 88 percent of men said they prefer women with light skin, with Beijing men showing the biggest degree of preference.

On the contrary, more than 50 percent of females said they like men with sun-tanned skin, with those in Fujian and Henan provinces showing the biggest preference.

About 67 percent of male interviewees believed breasts are the sexiest part of women, followed by legs and rear.

Overall, they believed the sexiest women are those with a unique temperament, graceful behavior and a plump body shape.

For women, it's eyes and muscles that are deemed the sexiest parts of men.

Men who work hard, participate in sports and help with housework are viewed as sexy by women, according to the survey.
