Man guilty of local shooting spree, leaving 6 dead including a soldier, sentenced to death

THE man who killed six people including a soldier and injuring four others during only six hours with weapons in Shanghai in 2013 was sentenced to death for murder by a local court today.

Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court announced the verdict this morning. The court ruled Fan Jieming, 64, should be sentenced to death and all of his personal properties should be confiscated by the country.

Fan is charged for the killing and injuring with guns and an iron pipe on June 22 in 2013.

The six who died in the shooting spree included four of Fan’s colleagues, Zhang Yunfeng, Li Zhizhong, Wang Ronghai, Xia Huanhuan, an unlicensed taxi driver Bian Shijie and a military barrack sentinel Kong Bo.

Three of his four colleagues were murdered due to a dispute in the company on division of materials and facilities after the chemical company in Baoshan District halted its production.

“I regretted that I killed them, especially the innocent cabbie and the young sentinel,” Fan replied during a previous court hearing held in January last year when his lawyer asked him if regretted the killings.

“I used to be a soldier and I also have a family. I want to say I am sorry to the victims’ families.”

The court said police later also found a massive number of guns and bullets from Fan’s place after the killing.
