Free concert to raise curtain on French music festival

XUHUI District will stage a free concert in an art center along Huangpu River tonight to mark the beginning of the annual Croisements Festival, France's biggest overseas festival.

The Summer Music Festival organized by the French Embassy in China and the French Consulate General in Shanghai will include famous bands from France and China as part of the cultural exchanges between the two nations.

The music festival which will run through Sunday is also held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the signing of a sister-city agreement between Shanghai and Marseille.

The opening concert will be held at the West Bund Art Center at 6pm on 2555 Longteng Avenue which is renovated from a former plant of the Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., according to the West Bund Group that takes charge of the development of the Xuhui riverside area.

The art center covering over 10,000 square meters was opened to public in 2015. Its main structure was once the large hanger of the 205 Institute of the local aircraft maker.

The concert will be featured by three bands from Marseille, including the popular King Krab and French 79. The twin brother singers of King Krab is famous for Marseille classic music style, while the French 79 will stage the authentic French electronic pop music.

Several local music bands including the LAS AVES and ChaCha & DJ AIVILOX will also perform at the opening concert today.

Last year, the Summer Music Festival attracted some 3.8 million visitors in China to become the most popular cultural exchange event held by the French Embassy in China.
