Free Wi-Fi service at Hongqiao Airport simplified, expanded

Shanghai Hongqiao Airport today upgraded its free Wi-Fi service at both terminal buildings so passengers can gain access without repeated registrations.

Passengers only need to register for the Wi-Fi service at the Terminal 1 and 2 buildings with their mobile phone numbers once, and they will be connected automatically afterwards, the Shanghai Airport Authority said.

Previously, users have to register every time they wanted to use the service, which resulted in numerous complaints.

The airport also increased its Wi-Fi coverage by about 20 percent through the two terminal buildings and can now serve 5,000 passengers simultaneously.

Meanwhile, the airport authority today dispatched a staffer at the taxi waiting area at the Hongqiao airport to help passengers, especially foreigners, to call taxis. A mist sprayer system used at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 site and an electronic information board in both English and Chinese were also put into use today.

The information board will display roughly how much it will cost to take a taxi to the city's major downtown spots such as People's Square and Jing'an Temple.
