Food leaves bad taste in the mouth
Recent violators of food safety regulations include time-honored Sunya Cantonese Restaurant, bakery chain Christine and Carrefour.
The Maoming Road outlet of Sunya was fined 70,000 yuan (US$9,950) after its salad failed tests for E. coli, according to the Jing’an District Administration for Market Regulation. The same outlet was fined 25,000 yuan for using a substandard additive in its shrimp dumplings.
Bakery chain Christine was fined 50,000 yuan by the Putuo District Administration for Market Regulation for fraudulent advertising of “low calorie” jellies.
Carrefour was fined 90,000 yuan for selling drinking water with excessive nitrites.
The Huhang Highway outlet of Italian-style fast food restaurant chain Saizeriya was given a warning by the Fengxian District Administration for Market Regulation after a spoon was found to contain coliform bacteria.
The Hutai Road outlet of Mannings chain pharmacy was fined for selling sunscreen with inaccurate labeling.
