Five-story slide at shopping mall Wow the public with safety concerns raised

A five-floor-high slide at a shopping mall in Pudong New Area has triggered heated discussion and great attention among locals.

The giant winding slide made of stainless steel is shaped like a dragon. It is expected to open after the Lantern Festival, which falls on February 22 this year.

The slide attracted big crowds taking photos at the Pujian outlet of Printemps Department Store this afternoon.

"It looks fun and my son was too curious," said Yao Jin, who brought her five year old son to the store.

"My son was excited and very interested to have a try, but I still have some concerns on its safety," said Yao, who lives near the store.

Another visitor, Jack Shen in his 20s, said he will not take a ride.

"It is a stunt of the department store, and the slide seems to be very dangerous," he said.

"Some people will probably get stuck inside," said Shen.

The slide is not transparent, but there are small holes on it.

The Pudong New Area Market Supervision and Management Bureau said the slide does not fit into any special equipment category, thus compulsory inspection is not required.

But the department store operator has sent the slide for tests, and is fixing some potential safety hazards, the bureau said.
