Doctors tell parents to protect kids from sunburns, allergies

Medical experts are warning parents about the need to protect their children from sunburns and allergies as the weather warms up.

“We have received some children who complained about nausea after playing in a greenhouse for a long time,” said Dr Tang Xiaopeng from Renai Hospital’s pediatrics department. “Greenhouses are hot and poorly ventilated. Some of the kids had sun rashes on parts of their body.”

She said children with sensitive skin are likely to develop an acute reaction if exposed to the sun for too long. Tang recommended parents apply a good sunscreen lotion before taking kids outdoors when it’s hot and sunny.

Another doctor said children with allergies should avoid coming into direct contact with plants and flowers.

Experts also warned people about hygiene and food that is not refrigerated properly.

The hospital’s gastric department said there were more patients than usual on Monday as the warm weather means bacteria can grow on food quicker.
