Customs speeds parcels from S. Korea

SHANGHAI Customs and postal authorities worked together to get parcels stuck at airports in South Korea due to the novel coronavirus outbreak via a new route, Customs said yesterday.
A hotline launched last month had several calls from people who hadn’t received parcels from South Korea for a long time. Airports and airlines confirmed that transport capacity from South Korea to Shanghai had dropped because of the outbreak, leaving lots of parcels stranded at airports.
China’s and South Korea’s postal authorities came up with a plan to ship them to Weihai, a coastal city in Shandong Province, and then transport them to Shanghai.
There were about 7,499 parcels in five containers, including some 1.3 million pieces of supplies for epidemic prevention and control such as masks and protective clothing.
To help them get to the destination more quickly, Shanghai Customs directed Weihai Customs officials to send them straight to the Shanghai International Mail Exchange Bureau for clearance locally.
