Clear start with rainy end for Labor Day holiday

The three-day Labor Day holiday is expected to have a clear start but rainy end with the high topping mid-twenties, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

The cool and gusty weather is likely to say goodbye to us starting today, when the high bounces back to 22 degrees Celsius. The sunshine will make its way back under cloudy skies despite a few scattered showers in the afternoon. Due to the high pressure's domination, the cloudy and partly sunny condition will last through Sunday daytime.

An east-moving trough of low pressure will affect the city Sunday night and bring some showers with perhaps a few rumbles of thunder, which may push the mercury down a bit by 2 degrees on Monday next week. The overcast and wet weather is expected to continue on Monday.

Starting tomorrow, it will get much warmer with the mercury reaching 26 degrees and the warming trend will continue on Saturday with a high of 27 degrees. The low will also jump from 14 to 16 degrees on Saturday. Sunday the warmth will repeat with a high of 27 and a low of 18.

There is a chance for smog to occur today and tomorrow due to some pollution carried to the city by winds from northern China and the city's poor weather condition which may not disperse the pollutants well.

But the smoggy is unlikely to remain during the Labor Day holiday because the northerly winds will be replaced by easterly ones.
