Chinese passenger on international flight arrested for creating a scene on board

A Chinese passenger on an international-bound flight was arrested for creating a scene and assaulting police officers at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Sunday afternoon.

Police confirmed his arrest today.

The man, surnamed Lu, insisted on a seat upgrade after boarding United Airlines flight UA087 to New York. He occupied a seat that belonged to another passenger, police said.

The captain refused to have Lu onboard the flight and called in the airport police, who tried to convince Lu to leave the plane.

Lu refused, forcing the police to physically remove him from the plane. A scuffle ensued and Lu reportedly attacked the officers.

Police said the officers were slightly injured. Police told Shanghai Daily today that two of the injured officers had returned to work while the other needed a longer break to recover at home.

A picture uploaded on the Internet reportedly showed Lu was being taken away from the flight as he plucked himself on the aisle.

Lu, who is not from Shanghai, has been charged with interfering with police action.
