Chinese operas begin public display at subway stations
TRADITIONAL Chinese operas began its first-ever public display at major local subway stations today.
Passengers are presented with video clips and photos about the charm of traditional theaters at the stations of People's Square, Xintiandi, Xujiahui and the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum.
Representative excerpts from classic plays and celebrated artists are also exhibited, along with basic performance skills and background knowledge of the theaters. The display will last for two weeks.
According to Shanghai Center of Chinese Operas, whom organized the event, it is a program of "cultural subways”, which aims to arouse public awareness of the preservation of traditional arts such as the Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera and Huju Opera.
While bringing artistic flavors to the subways stations in the city, it is also a chance for the age-old theaters to attract and foster a large young audience.
