Charity program launched to help ailing children

BEFORE the fall of Children’s Day on June 1, Shanghai Children’s Medical Center teamed with Project HOPE, a non-governmental organization, launched a charity program to help children with rare diseases and poor children with serious diseases today.

Some 160 volunteers drove bicycles for a 10-kilemter charity ride in Pudong New Area. Enterprises bought the mileage as donation for the children’s medical support.

In addition, an exhibition and charity auction was launched in the hospital’s lobby. A total of 50 donated photographs from 10 medical staffers, retired teachers, students, foreigners and enterprise officials, were shown and auctioned.

Some 300,000 yuan (US$44,118) was collected from today’s event, hospital officials said.

“Since our hospital was established, we have collected and received over 100 million yuan donation and helped nearly 10,000 patients,” said Dr Ji Qingying, a hospital official.
