Charity program launched to enhance prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases

There are 290 million people with cardiovascular diseases in China now and cardiovascular disease has become the cause of over 40 percent of deaths in the nation, experts told the Oriental Congress of Cardiology over the weekend.

To enhance disease prevention and control, China Cardiovascular Health Association, a charity platform of cardiovascular disease in China, signed agreement with world-leading pharmaceutical company Pfizer during the congress to help build grassroots chronic disease management and chest pain centers to extend disease prevention and treatment network to county-based health authorities.

Professional trainings for medical staff and cardiovascular health management based big data are also included into the program.

“Our purpose is to have 90 percent of cardiovascular patients treated in their hometown through perfecting hypertension management and improving county-level hospitals’ ability on acute chest pain treatment to drop casualty and improve treatment effects,” said Dr Huo Yong, vice president of China Cardiovascular Health Association.

Collection for the nation’s first cardiology museum also kicked off during the congress, as patients and doctors, who have documents and items to show the development of Chinese history on cardiology treatment, are encouraged to donate for the museum, which will start construction soon.

China’s cardiology started in 1950s and 60 and has bloomed since 1980s.
