Cancer treatment training for general physicians to be enhanced

SHANGHAI Cancer Center is teaming up with neighborhood health centers in Baoshan District to offer cancer treatment training for general physicians to give patients high quality, nearby and regular treatment and service just in front of their home.

The effort is part of a national initiative to build a cancer prevention and treatment network consisting of professional hospitals, centers of disease prevention and control and grassroots hospitals,

From this week, Shanghai Cancer Center will offer two-month training for nearly 100 GPs in Baoshan’s neighborhood health center on cancer prevention and treatment and promote the knowledge of cancer screening, follow-up visit for those during rehabilitation and pain management to improve the screening, intervention, health education and patient management in the grassroots.

There are 3.1 million new cancer patients in China every year with 2 million deaths annually. There are about 59,000 new cancer patients in the city last year. With the rising of elderly population, the cancer incidence and death rate will keep rising, imposing strong burden on the society and their families.
