Brace for cold chill before the Chinese New Year

A cold front from the north will lower temperatures and bring with it a wave of gray haze in the coming days, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

Temperature will remain stable on Wednesday and Thursday, fluctuating between six to nine degrees Celsius, forecasters said.

On Thursday, the bits of rain will stop but there will be haze. The mercury will drop dramatically on Friday with the low down to about one degree. On Saturday, it will drop further to zero degrees in downtown and below zero in suburban areas.

The cold wave will last until next Wednesday.

It will get a little warmer the day before Chinese New Years’ Eve on Thursday with temperature hovering between four and 11 degrees.
