Bleak forecast for Beijing, neighboring cities
BEIJING and its surrounding areas could soon face a new bout of heavy pollution, the Ministry of Environmental Protection said yesterday.
The poor air quality in the capital — which saw clear skies yesterday after two days of choking smog — could last for up to five days, it said.
Heavy fog shrouded much of east China’s Shandong Province yesterday, closing highways and delaying flights.
The provincial meteorological observatory issued a yellow alert for heavy fog early yesterday, forecasting visibility of less than 500 meters in its northwestern and northern areas.
More than 70 toll stations on 11 highways in Shandong also had to be temporarily closed.
Flights were affected at Jinan International Airport due to low visibility.
By 9:20am, about 20 flights had been postponed or canceled.
