4 held for threatening to jump off building’s roof

Four people were detained on suspicion of assembling to disturb public order after threatening to jump from a building over a business dispute, police in Minhang District said today.

The three men, surnamed Xiong, Yang, and Li, and a woman surnamed Zhang were franchisees of an electronics technology company. They had a dispute with the company saying delivered products were defective. The company refused to recall the products, police said.

They then went to the roof of 32-story CapitaLand commercial building on Humin Road in Minhang around 11am on Tuesday, threatening to jump from it.

Police, firefighters and negotiators were dispatched to the site. After a marathon negotiation, the four were persuaded to come down around 8:30pm the next day.

Xiong was placed in criminal custody. The other three were handed administrative detentions between eight and 10 days.
