Tourism rises 6%

ZHEJIANG Province received 6.68 million overseas visitors in the first three quarters of this year, up 6 percent over the same period of last year.

Visitors from Macau jumped the most at 14.2 percent. Those from Hong Kong and Taiwan increased by 5.9 percent. European visitors increased by 5.3 percent year on year.

Zhejiang is the third biggest destination for visitors from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, following Guangdong and Fujian provinces. People from these three regions made up 75 percent of all overseas visitors, according to the National Tourism Bureau.

Zhejiang launched a tourism promotion recently and signed contracts with 18 foreign and domestic travel agencies. The deals are expected to bring in 180,000 tourists and US$100 million in earnings.
