Top travel pick

Hangzhou was included in the New York Times’ list of “52 Places to Go in 2016,” published last week. This is the second time Hangzhou has appeared on the list. This year, it ranked 16th, up from 33rd place in 2011.

The prestigious US newspaper selected the ancient city of Hangzhou for its fabulous museums and rich cultural heritage.

Over its long history, Hangzhou has produced many of China’s most celebrated poets and artists. These days, it is also known as the home of Alibaba, the world’s biggest e-commerce company. The city’s renown is set to spread even further this summer, when Hangzhou will host this year’s G20 summit.

Another Chinese locale that made the Times’ list was Guizhou Province, in southwestern China. It ranked 44th.

The US publication Travel+Leisure also recently singled out Hanghzou, naming it one of the 50 most popular tourist destinations in 2016.
