Special cop squad

HANGZHOU police recently formed a special brigade to patrol the city’s six elevated roads, three river tunnels and two Qiantang River bridges.

The six elevated roads total 85 kilometers in length and act as main arteries for the city. Hangzhou will have 130 kilometers of elevated highways by the end of 2017, officials said, adding the elevated Qiushi Road and Qiutao Road S. will be built in December and next June.

They said elevated roads used to be supervised by different traffic police on the ground. The new brigade can work more efficiently and professionally.

Initially, the brigade has three squads and about 30 police booths on elevated roads, each manned by two officers. Roads with less traffic will be patrolled from time to time.
