Park-and-ride
Park-and-ride facilities at two Metro Line 1 stations were put into service on January 19. The new commuting method is expected to ease road jams in downtown Hangzhou and encourage more people to choose public transport.
Commuters can park their cars at new lots at Xianghu Station and Linping Station and take the subway downtown. Drivers doing this get a 50 percent parking discount. But they have to pay Metro fee and parking fee with the same public transport card.
Parking costs 5 yuan (81 US cents) for the first four hours and an additional 5 yuan for each hour afterward at Xianghu Station. The fee is capped at 25 yuan a day. Thus, park-and-ride passengers will only pay 12.5 yuan.
Metro officials said they will add 300 parking spaces at Xianghu Station before the end of March.
Parking at Linping Station costs 5 yuan for the first two hours and 10 yuan for the first four hours with a maximum fee of 15 yuan.
