New Metro line

HANGZHOU will begin construction of Metro Line 6 this year, which will link Zhijiang New City with Qianjiang Century’s central business district, the city’s development and reform commission said last week.

The first phase of the line extends 27 kilometers, starting from Shuangpu Station in Zhijiang New City and ending at Fengbei Station in Qianjiang Century Central Business District.

The line will cross the Qiantang River and include 19 stations, including six that link to other lines and one with the Hangzhou-Fuyang inter-city railway. Each train will have six carriages and run at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

The commission said residents in Binjiang and Xiaoshan districts will be able to get downtown faster once the line opens in 2018.

The initial design of the first phase of Line 6 has been approved by the Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission. Bidding for the construction project will start after the design is completed. It will adopt a public-private investment model.
