More parking lots

Hangzhou built 16 car parks near Metro stations on the outskirts or near tourist destinations to reduce downtown traffic jams and to promote public transportation.

Thirteen car parks are near Metro stations and three are close to scenic areas. Together they have parking capacity for 9,215 cars.

Metro Line 1 stations in Xianghu, Jiubao and Linping were the first in Hangzhou to introduce the park-and-ride system early this year.

“Every time I come to Hangzhou, I would park my car near a Metro station. It costs only 12.5 yuan a day and saves me a lot of money on fuel,” a man surnamed Li said.

Officials said four more parking lots will open soon near Chaoyang Station in Xiaoshan, Jiangling Road Station in Binjiang, Jinsha Lake Station and Wenhai Road Station in Xiasha.

The city plans to add 10 more car parks with 3,610 parking spaces.
