HANGZHOU will compete with Suzhou and Shanghai to attract the Compasso d’Oro, the top industrial design award in the world, to work with the China Industrial Design Association to set up a new award.

A visiting group of Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI), the founder of the award, visited Hangzhou recently headed by its president and other high-ranking officials. They were impressed by Hangzhou’s culture and design.

Compasso d’Oro was founded by ADI in 1954 and is considered the Academy Award of industrial design.

According to an agreement between ADI and the China Industrial Design Association, the cooperation will involve three projects — a China Research Academy of Italian Industrial Design, a European Innovation Museum and a Compasso d’Oro brand award in China.
