Huge Expo Center
Hangzhou International Expo Center will be the largest exhibition, convention and entertainment center in Hangzhou when it opens in April 2016. The colossal structure stands on the east bank of the Qiantang River with Qianjiang New Town on the opposite bank.
The Expo Center is 3.5 times the size of Huanglong Sports Center and its rooftop garden is equivalent to the size of eight football fields. It will feature osmanthus and other shrubs. There will be a 500-meter-wide cascading waterfall on the south side.
As the largest single building in China and the second largest in the world, this mammoth structure will be made with 3.5 times more steel than Beijing’s National Stadium, the main venue of the 2008 Summer Olympics.
The Expo Center has a perimeter of about 2 kilometers, three floors, two underground levels for parking and retail purposes, and direct access to a subway station along Metro Line 6. It will have 28 meeting halls and 12 exhibition halls capable of holding 6,500 standard booths.
