Expressway progress

Work is progressing well on four new stretches of expressway in the Hangzhou area, the contractor said recently.

The 2.5-kilometer extension of the Hangzhou-Changxing Expressway links Zijingang Transport Hub in the north with Liushi Expressway in the south. It should ease traffic in the West Lake area when it opens later this year.

The second is between the Xiasha Transport Hub of Raocheng Expressway and the Jiangdong Bridge. The 2.8km stretch of expressway offers another route from downtown to Xiaoshan International Airport and Dajiangdong New Town. It may open in October.

The third is a highway interchange connecting the Airport Expressway with Qianjiang No. 3 Bridge, Jiangnan Avenue and Fengqing Avenue.

And the fourth stretch is the rebuilding of the Xiaoshan Airport Expressway. On completion next May, the 14.6km expressway will have two decks with a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour on the upper deck and a speed limit of 50km per hour on the lower deck. It will have seven interchanges.
