Hangzhou reported a 44 percent rise in cholera, typhoid fever and dysentery cases in the first four months of this year, compared with a year before, the Hangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention said last week.
The number of diarrhea patients soared 44.34 percent to 30,392, while the number of measles sufferers climbed 31.07 percent. No deaths related to the diseases were reported, the center said.
Local hospitals also treated 14,795 people with hand-foot-mouth disease. One of them died.
The center advised local people to eat cooked food, drink boiled water and wash their hands more often.
