Diners have plenty to celebrate this Christmas
WHETHER you’ve been naughty or nice, restaurants across Hangzhou will soon be offering up special Christmas menus that are sure to delight.
Here, the Shanghai Daily reaches into Hangzhou’s culinary goodie bag to introduce you to three of this year’s best holiday meal deals.
Roots Resort
热土庄园
Local vegetarian and health food institution Roots Resort is offering a Christmas set with 11 dishes, many of which will feature organic vegetables grown right at the resort. Even the most avid carnivore will love this vegetable-based meal, which includes treats like avocado baked with cheese, sauted abalone mushroom, and pasta with egg and black truffle. Of course, there will be plenty of festive red and green vegetable arrangements in honor of the festive occasion.
The set costs 488 yuan (US$75.5), plus 15 percent service charge, per person.
Located at Jiuxi in Xu Village, the resort is a paradise for nature lovers, with cascading water features, gardens and vegetable fields. Visitors can also get up close and personal with the resort’s rabbits, horses and alpacas.

Kingdom Restaurant
金桃
At a converted metal factory in southeastern Hangzhou one finds Kingdom Restaurant, one of the city’s trendiest hang-outs.
As an affiliate of the well-known Metoo Cafe, Kingdom is a Western restaurant with spacious seating, vintage lights and exposed wooden beams spread over two floors.
Gavin Hui, a consultant with the restaurant, tells Shanghai Daily that this year’s Christmas meal will include black truffle roast turkey, rocket and tomato “Christmas Tree” salad, and a vanilla cream and espresso desert.
“Fresh truffles and a can of beer from Texas are the secret that keeps the meat juicy and soft,” says Hui.
A set for two people costs 380 yuan.

Manager Leo Gu is proud of its fresh selection, which typically includes oysters imported from Australia, New Zealand and France, 5J ham from Iberia and Wagyu steak from Japan.
“We use home-made sauces and have suppliers who can transport the freshest ingredients to Hangzhou as soon as possible,” he explained to Shanghai Daily.
For the coming Christmas, JP is offering a two-people-set for 988 yuan, including oysters, king crab, goose liver, black truffle soup, coral trout, Wagyu steak and Australian lobster.
