Cap on fireworks
HANGZHOU will limit the use of firecrackers to only three days during the Chinese New Year holiday next year, local officials announced.
Firecrackers are to be allowed on February 18 and 19, the eve and the first day of Chinese Lunar New Year, and on March 5, the Lantern Festival and traditional end of the Spring Festival.
If smoke triggers the orange or red air pollution alert during the holiday, the city will place further restrictions on fireworks.
Meanwhile, the city will shorten the sale of fireworks to four days (February 16-19), officials said.
Authorities said fireworks will be banned around government buildings, historical sites, old streets, hospitals, schools, religious venues, airports, train stations, military facilities and other sensitive areas.
