Bridge toll free

THE Zhijiang Bridge over the Qiantang River is now toll free, making travel from Hangzhou to Tonglu, Fuyang and Qiandao Lake more convenient.

Previously, those using the 4.7-kilometer bridge had to pay a toll of 10 yuan (US$1.63) per car. Many drivers didn’t want to pay it and took a detour by using Zhijiang Road or Qiantang No. 1 Bridge.

Trucks with a load of more than 2 tons and tankers carrying dangerous chemicals are prohibited from using the bridge, officials said.

Meanwhile, the downtown parking fee was raised from 12 yuan to 22 yuan for the first two hours.

Elsewhere, five ramps on Feiyunjiang Road in Jianggan District were closed as Fuxing Overpass is being repaired. Police expect more traffic jams on Qiutao Road, Qianjiang Road and Jiangcheng Road as a result.
