Police watch as a vehicle burns after activists from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) set fire to it during a clash in Dhaka yesterday. Activists and supporters of the main opposition BNP torched and vandalized vehicles as they clashed with police after a rally organized by BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called for a three-day shutdown. Demonstrators are protesting the death penalty given on Thursday to Delwar Hossain Sayedee, a leader of Jamaate-Islami, for atrocities during Bangladesh's 1971 war of separation from Pakistan.
