Venues for Rio Olympics

THE upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will be divided into four zones, spread throughout the city — Barra, Deodoro, Copacabana and Maracanã.
Most events will be held in the western part of Rio de Janeiro, in the suburb of Barra da Tijuca.
In Barra da Tijuca you will find the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Park and the Olympic Village.
Currently Rugby Sevens, for the first time included at the Olympics, will be held at the Deodoro Stadium.
Maracanã Zone
• Maracanã Stadium
Sports/activity: Opening/closing ceremonies, football
The legendary Maracanã Stadium will stage the opening and closing ceremonies and the decisive matches of the men’s and women’s football (both finals and one semi-final in each). The iconic venue was modernized for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
• Maracanãzinho
Sports/activity: Volleyball
The spiritual home of volleyball in Brazil, the Maracanãzinho was the natural choice for hosting the sport at Rio Olympics. The arena was renovated for the 2007 Pan-American Games, and has had one training court refurbished and another temporary one added for the 2016 Games.
• Olympic Stadium (Engenhão)
Sports/activity: Athletics, football
Built for the 2007 Pan-American Games, the Olympic Stadium is the home of athletics and one of the stages for the football matches. Temporary extra seating has expanded the capacity, while the running track was completely modernized.
Copacabana Zone
• Beach Volleyball Arena
Sports/activity: Beach volleyball
An impressive temporary structure raised on the sands of Copacabana Beach, the arena has a center court for competition, plus five training courts and two warm-up courts.
• Marina da Glória
Sports/activity: Sailing
Marina da Glória is the base for the sailing competitions taking place on Guanabara Bay and out on the open ocean. The venue has been expanded and modernized, with new leisure facilities aimed at attracting visitors, and is now integrated with Flamengo Park.
Barra Zone
• Maria Lenk Aquatics Center
Sports/activity: Synchronized swimming, water polo, diving
The Maria Lenk Aquatics Center was built for the 2007 Pan-American Games and has been renovated for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, during which it will host diving, water polo (group stage) and synchronized swimming.
Olympic Tennis Center
Sports/activity: Tennis
Built for the Rio 2016 Games, the Olympic Tennis Center features 16 courts, some of them temporary. The central court and its facilities are permanent and will be one of the Games' biggest sporting legacies.
• Olympic Golf Course
Sports/activity: Golf
It’s where golf returns to the Games after more than a century away. Built for Rio 2016, the 18-hole course was landscaped using local, native vegetation as part of an environmental recovery project. The course opens to the public after the event.
Deodoro Zone
• Olympic Equestrian Center
Sports/activity: Equestrian
Built for the 2007 Pan-American Games, the Olympic Equestrian Center was modernized and expanded for the 2016 Summer Games. The 1-million-square-meter area contains the jumping and dressage arena, cross-country course and horse and trainer accommodation.
• Deodoro Stadium
Sports/Activity: Modern Pentathlon, Rugby Sevens
The temporary Deodoro Stadium was built around an existing polo field and will host the rugby tournament and the equestrian and combined running and shooting sections of the modern pentathlon.
