Park Hyatt Sunny Bay boasts secluded location in Sanya

EXCLUSIVE and private are key features in the world of luxury hotels.

Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay resort has both.

The beach resort area of Yalong Bay in Sanya, Hainan Province, has long been famous for it’s beautiful beaches and gorgeous sea views. But with more than 10 top-class hotels and resorts it can seem a little crowded at times.

Sunny Bay is a different story.

Featuring similar beautiful sea views, Sunny Bay is about 10 minutes from central Yalong Bay and is quieter and less developed. The new Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort, expected to open in early 2015, plans to make good use of these natural advantages to deliver an incredible experience for guests. High on this list of advantages is a private beach since the resort is the only one in Sunny Bay.

Designed by Belgian architect Jean-Michel Gathy, the style of the resort combines a sense of modernization with traditional Chinese elements in the spacious 207 rooms and villas. While the hotel provides truly resort experience with six dining venues, seven event spaces and five pools, the guests are able to enjoy more activities but in a quieter “private bay.”

Grey, red and black are the dominant colors of the interior decor, giving a sleek yet comfortable atmosphere while traditional Chinese style windowpanes, shelves, lamps and tabletops feature prominently.

The resort also takes pride in being an art gallery, like other Park Hyatt properties. Artworks are in corridors, rooms and public spaces.

As one would expect in a luxury resort, the Park has a spa, five swimming pools, and event venues. It also has Bath House, the only indoor swimming pool in the area. Even on rainy days and cold weather, customers can still go for a dip in the pool.

There’s also the Library, a place where people can go to spend a quiet evening reading, checking e-mails and drinking coffee, almost as if they were in their own living room.

Pool House is a restaurant with an open kitchen serving barbecued meats, pizzas, as well as fresh salads. Customers are expected to take great pleasure in the view across the water of Yalong Bay while having their favorite cocktails and snacks.

The food and beverage provided in the resort will be prepared by three experienced chefs from Australia, Taiwan and Chinese mainland. Western style food and cuisines of authentic Zhejiang and Jiangsu flavors will be presented to the guests.

Nicholas Lacey, General Manager of Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort says service will be very flexible to ensure guests have a great time.

“The Terrace is the best place to watch the sunrise in Yalong Bay,” Lacey says. “So if customers say they want to have breakfast there, fine, we will arrange it for them.”

As for the rooms and suites, most have great sea views, but there are also 17 villas that are distinct from the six main buildings. The light-filled, high-ceilinged villas include a generously sized living room with a Chinese fretwork ceiling, as well as dining areas both indoors and outdoors. Each also has a courtyard inspired by the traditional Chinese siheyuan, as well as a 10-meter private pool and sun deck, all carefully landscaped to provide complete privacy.

Villas will come with a dedicated butler who will be able to arrange everything from a barbecue in the garden and private swimming lessons for the kids to a tea ceremony or trip to the fish market at dawn.

While the Park Hyatt has an exclusive and remote feel due to its location, it is still connected to Yalong Bay, the airport and downtown Sanya. Shuttle buses and other transport options are available to make life convenient for guests.

“We are excited to be opening in Hainan and incredibly blessed to be located on by far the most breathtaking bay on the island,” Lacey says. “As the first Hyatt in Hainan, we are confident Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort will raise hospitality to a whole new level on the island. We look forward to creating exclusive, private and unique experiences for our guests.”
