Golf, sharing family time are passions

NAME/NATIONALITY: China

Profession/Title: General manager, Sanya Marriott Yalong Bay Resort & Spa

Frequency of travel: About once per month for business and leisure.

Objective of travel: For business, I often visit our key markets such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu. By meeting with key clients, I can learn exactly what their needs are. For leisure, I like to travel to different countries around the world with golf courses. It’s a perfect way to explore different cultures and take part in my favorite hobby — golf!

Favorite traveling style: My favorite way is business class in the air and casual on the ground.

When I finish a journey, I always ... Anytime when I finish a journey, I like to spend a private moment to review all the photos which were taken during the journey. For those special moments, especially those with my family, I will make a note explaining where the photo was taken and how we were feeling, so that when my children are older they will be able to remember each trip.

Number of destinations visited: Almost 60 different countries around the world, I’ve stopped keeping count, but I can recommend a great place to stay or eat in any of the world’s top cities.

What travel means in your life: For me, traveling means discovery. When I travel with my family, traveling means more than a different culture; it also means enjoying quality time with my family through experiencing new things.

Travel preference (alone or with family/friends): In my leisure time, I prefer to travel with my family.

Q: What kind of hotel will you choose to stay in during a trip?

A: Top of my list will be a Marriott hotel. Other than that, I normally like a hotel with the best location and of course easy access to golf courses.

Q: What do you value most when choosing a hotel?

A: Brand and location.

Q: Is there a facility or service that you feel is necessary during a hotel stay?

A: During a long stay, a well-equipped gym is necessary, but perhaps most important is knowledgeable staff that can help me get the most out of my stay through their local experience.

Q: What do you expect most of a hotel for an enjoyable stay?

A: Friendly employees with engaging service.

Q: What do you usually do in a hotel during your stay apart from resting in your room?

A: I like to go to the gym. I often get general information through websites before the traveling, but when I arrive in a hotel, I talk with the concierge to find out specific details. You can’t beat local insider tips.

Q: How do you book a hotel at an affordable room rate?

A: I like to book a room from the hotel’s website directly.

Q: Share with us an unforgettable stay in a hotel.

A: When I stayed at the Arts Hotel in Barcelona, I was impressed by the architecture and design. It was a long time ago and it was the first time I came across the now standard electric curtains. I thought it was really amazing, especially as there were no hotels using this technology in China at that time.

Q: Are there any hotels you looking forward to staying in the future?

A: I really want to go to Tokyo and stay in a traditional folk house and enjoy a special hot spring experience with the view of a snow-capped mountain. It sounds very romantic.

Q: What is your favorite destination and why?

A: As I know, Kunming is an attractive destination with spring-like climate all year round and abundant national culture.

Q: What’s so special about it?

A: There is a golf resort named Spring City Golf & Lake Resort (Spring City), which is known as one of the best golf courses in China.

Q: Are there any necessities you have to take when going to Kunming?

A: Camera, umbrella and golf clubs!
