GM likes ambience of German island

NATIONALITY: German

Profession/Title: Hotelier / General Manager, Renaissance Shanghai Yangtze Hotel

My travel frequency: Four to six times a year.

My favorite traveling style: First by aircraft, fast and efficiently choosing the airlines of final destination, as the holiday can start when boarding. If affordable in class with more space!

Driving a car through the country scene in Europe, USA and even Southeast Asia at my own pace, booking unique accommodation to stay for a couple of days, then driving on to the next unique place.

When I finish a journey, I always feel welcome by my wife and my two boys. If we travel together, I love the welcome back from our Labrador dog, Samantha.

Whether I travel alone or with family/friends, it depends on the purpose. For business, obviously mostly on my own. On annual leave I always travel with the family. As a hotelier, itÕs the only real time we can have most of the daily meals together and spend some quality time without phone calls and or rushing into meetings.

Q: Share with us an unforgettable stay in a hotel.

A: Staying as a young guy at the Marriott Marquis Hotel on New York’s Time Square with 1,900 rooms, one of the most vibrant places on earth, before I joined Marriott International.

And a suite stay with my wife at the Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola, on the shores of Lake Lugano in Switzerland with a private lido on the pier of the lake.
