Egyptian-themed festivities come to Sheraton

THE Egypt Consulate General in Shanghai held a reception last week at the Sheraton Shanghai Pudong Hotel in honor of Revolution Day.
This holiday marks the 1952 revolution which saw the establishment of Egypt as an independent republic and an end to the country’s colonial occupation.
Officials from China and several African embassies took part in the reception. Chamber of commerce representatives from several countries were on hand as well. The vice mayor of Shanghai, Weng Tiehui, offered her regards on behalf of the Shanghai Municipal Government. Consul General Khaled Youssef made a speech at the reception, during which he expressed gratitude to the assembled crowd.
Youssef also took the opportunity to promote the upcoming Egyptian Tourism and Cultural Festival, which is set to run at the Sheraton Shanghai Pudong Hotel from August 14 to 18, and also the Westin Bund Center from August 20 to 24. Events will be held each day from 6pm to 10pm.
From August 14 to 18, diners at the Feast Signature Restaurant at Sheraton Shanghai Pudong Hotel can partake of a special Egyptian-themed buffet dinner. What’s more, guests can also have their portraits painted on papyrus by celebrated Egyptian artist Ahmed El-Shamy. Whirling dervish and belly dance performances will also be staged.
This portion of the tourism festival will also include a lucky-draw event, with seven sets of all-expenses-paid trips to Egypt available. Lucky winners will receive round-trip tickets to Egypt, five-star hotel accommodations and tours of the Pyramids, Sphinx and the Great Egyptian Museum accompanied by a Chinese-speaking guide.
Sheraton Shanghai Pudong Hotel managing director Magdy Anis said that the hotel has a long history of holding cross-cultural events and accommodating people from all over the world.
