Simple, classic styles always in fashion

DEE Poon is CEO of PYE, a retailer with boutiques on China’s mainland and Hong Kong. She is an established fashion icon. PYE focuses on selling fine dress shirts with a focus on quality.

My personal style is quite simple. I love staples that I will be able to wear forever, and look to quality and style rather than trends. I love shopping for books and I am often looking for things for my house. In terms of fashion, I don’t have a single thing that I most like to buy, but I am always on the lookout for great pieces that feel great.

The designers I most admire include Nicholas Ghesquiere and what he did at Balenciaga, Raf Simons, Pheobe Philo, Stella Macartney… I think the main lessons that I have learned from designers that I admire predominantly are that one should always remember the relationship between clothes and the wearer, and that a brand can move whilst always being true to itself.

I have many interesting outfits!  I don’t really think of dressing in terms of outfits though — these usually come about due to how I am feeling as I dress.

My last wardrobe addition was the latest collection at PYE. We recently re-launched our women’s collection at PYE. I am basically living in our new shirts. It took us four years to design this series, and I am really obsessed with it.

My next fashion purchase … unfortunately I can’t answer this until I see the piece.

My grooming staple is sleeping.

One of the most memorable places I have visited would have to be Inhotim in Brazil. It’s an amazing art park that will blow your mind.

The best things about living in Shanghai is the way Shanghai is a cross between the past and the future.

The last book I read was Antigone, by Sophocles. It’s a greek tragedy with many themes ranging from free will and fate, rules and order, love, family, power and strength.

Allen Xie was born in Wuhan and educated in the UK, where he found a passion for men’s classic fashion. After graduating from college, he moved to Shanghai and founded the bespoke brand Allen Xie. Now the brand operates in both Shanghai and Beijing.

My personal style is what I call classic with a twist.

The best outfit I have ever worn is my new checked three-piece suit. Of course every new suit is the best outfit ever worn up to that point.

I follow fashion news by looking at Instagram and Tumbler.

I usually shop at Ralph Lauren, Berluti and lots of the tailored shops around the world. But of course, most of my garments are from Allen Xie.

If I had to limit my shopping in Shanghai, I can just wear everything from my own brand.

My favorite brand is Ralph Lauren (apart from my own), because everything he delivers is so clear.

My last wardrobe addition is the checked brown three-piece suit, also my favorite.

The fashion item I’m eyeing is a watch called royal oak ultra thin from Audemars Piguet.

My grooming style is nothing fancy. Toothbrush and razor.

The most memorable place I have traveled to is really hard to think of, been to lot of places but cannot name a special one.

The best thing about living in Shanghai is this place feels like home to me. I don’t have that feeling anywhere else in the world.

The last book I’ve read is “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Yes, the book inspired the movie with the same name.

I would love to live in LA. Good weather, nice people, a lot of things happening.
