Italy’s Veneto region hosts emerging designers

IN the heart of Italian manufacturing and production facilities in the Veneto region, the fair “Origin, Passion & Belief” brought together some of the top emerging designers around the world and traditional manufacturing houses and suppliers to meet and engage for the growth and development of crafts and design talents.

“Origin, Passion & Belief” aims to promote and bring together different skills, know-how, backgrounds, creativity and experiences in manufacturing and processing of different materials and styles. It also aims not only to  plant seeds of inspiration for the future, but to introduce a new wave of artistic innovation to the Veneto region and its craftsmen, and to provide a unique platform for fashion’s most talented up-and-coming designers.

Several emerging designers highlighted the four-day fair at Fiera di Vicenza and showed their know-how and potential in the use of materials, craftsmanship and technology.

Chiara Scarpitti Studio

Chiara Scarpitti makes powerful, magical contemporary jewelry designs using her craftsmanship techniques along with the state-of-the-art technologies of inkjet prints on silk. The Italian girl is a designer as well as a researcher, who develops on different levels the contemporary, hybridizing technology with a humanistic approach, using the most innovative production techniques between advanced industry and high craft.

From her collection shown at the fair, there was an attempt to reflect, from an anthropological point of view, the sense of materials, techniques and shapes. The works bud from a crossbreeding of materials and techniques, both digital and handcrafted. The same mixing is made between different techniques as haute couture tailoring techniques, digital prints, industrial chemical cut, laser cut and rapid prototyping. All is finalized to probe a new kind of contemporary jewelry as an intersection between design and art, craftsmanship and industry, humanity and technology.

Incredible Creatures

After experimenting with assorted materials in different creative fields, Mario Salvucci went back to his jewelry creations and launched the new collection, “Incredible Creations,” in 2011.

The collection is an invitation to look around and observe what’s happening to nature. Each piece is made in 100 percent recycled sterling silver, refinished and bent by Salvucci’s hands in a limited edition, all done in his studio in Umbria, Italy. The shades of the silver are achieved with a natural process of oxidation done with sulphur that purifies and produces unique colors that are never the same. Thus every piece is original since each is bent by hand and the stones, out on measure, are all different.

Why spiders? The designer wanted to make something more personal and not so classic and commercial. For him the spider resembles something that is inside of us and can scare or attract others.

Andy Lifschutz

Andy Lifschutz’s exploration into metalwork began in Brooklyn with renowned designer Kristin Hanson, where his natural inclination for design and bursting expression finally found its discipline.

Lifschutz masters in casting and metalsmithing skills and some pieces from his collection are one-of-a-kind art pieces that are even gallery-worthy. He likes to make big-statement pieces.

From his youth, Lifschutz has approached history with imagination, romanticism and care, owing to the colorful and incredible stories of his own family. His tireless search for unique and meaningful items with which to make art is as much a characteristic of his work as the pieces themselves.

He discovered new ways to combine his artisan style with raw elements such as reclaimed metals, wood, bone and stone. Comprising these materials, his jewelry creates an appeal not solely focused on aesthetic value, but based heavily upon the indelible spirit of powerful organic forms.
