Malaysian singer to go solo in Shanghai concert

MALAYSIAN-BORN singer and songwriter Nurshahila Binti Amir Amzah, better known as Shila on stage, shot to fame in China with her powerful voice through Chinese reality singing shows “Asian Wave” (2012) and “I Am Singer” (2014).

Shila will stage her first solo concert outside her home country at Shanghai Luwan Stadium in mid-August.

The young singer, born in 1990, has been very popular on China’s mainland, with a full schedule of shows. Her career is now based in both Malaysia and China.

“I love to sing anytime, anywhere. Music is my life,” says Shila, who always introduces herself humbly.

According to the program list, Shila’s coming solo concert, “Love,” will present over 15 songs in English, Chinese and Malaysian, including “A Moment Like This,” “Listen,” “BeribuSesalan,” “Forever Love” and “Rolling in the Deep.”

“My concert will represent every song with love and conquer the heart of each audience,” the singer says. “Love makes us gather together from different places in this world.”

Shila is very excited about her upcoming performance. “I am so looking forward to that. I will be ready to stay cute and pretty on the stage, and sing a lot of great songs to my audience.”

Shila first appeared as a singer when she was only nine years old. As the champion of “Asian Wave,” she had the most online votes among all the contestants. She also won praise from the judges.

In 2013, she sang the theme song for the “Chinese Idol” titled “A Moment Like This,” originally sung by Kelly Clarkson — the winner of “American Idol” Season One who went on to a big career.

This Malaysian singer now has numerous Chinese fans. She says that through the TV shows she has gotten to know people from China and communicate with them in Chinese. She is making efforts to improve her Mandarin, a language that she learned from pre-school until third grade.

“I will improve my Chinese harder and sing more good Chinese songs,” she says.

Guo Yifan, a Shanghai local singer who participated in the TV show “Asian Wave” with Shila, will be the guest singer at the concert.
