Kid’s Lab offers interactive challenge to children
DESIGNED for children aged between eight and 12 years old, a number of hands-on experiments are on offer at Kid’s Lab in Shanghai Science and Technology Museum through this weekend.
The experimental workshops varying from 20 to 45 minutes include “Clever Foodies,” “Water Purification,” “Secrets of Colors” and “Colorful Butterfly — Fly!”
With the help of university students serving as volunteer teachers, children get to explore and analyze the substances contained in water, fruit and vegetables and to understand why they are colorful and healthy.
“For more than a decade, the interactive lab at the museum has attracted thousands of children each year,” said Liang Zhaozheng, deputy curator of Shanghai Science and Technology Museum.
“We believe that developing an interest in scientific research is a starting point for education. Looking forward, we hope that a more diverse group of children will participate in the program, including those who have just moved to Shanghai with their parents.”
Besides, the program is also part of BASF’s celebrations to mark the 15th anniversary of Kid’s Lab in China since 2002 when it was launched in Beijing.
So far, the lab has become a successful annual program that fascinates children in Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing each summer.
From now until December, Kid’s Lab will present one experiment each month on its official webpage for children to try at home.
