Brunch — the perfect way to start your Sunday

AFTER a busy week at work, it’s time to enjoy some time with friends and family over a Sunday brunch.

Some of the city’s top hotels are offering all-you-can-eat Sunday brunches with a wide selection of food and beverages.

Elements - Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai

The Sunday brunch at the Elements restaurant is a culinary feast featuring dishes from across the world.

Fresh seafood like salmon, tiger prawns, jumbo shrimps, Boston lobster, slipper lobster and spiny lobster, crab claws and snow crab legs are available as well as fresh sashimi and sushi.

The brunch also offers authentic Indian curries, carved succulent roasts, melted Raclette off the block, al dente Italian pasta, pan-seared foie gras, pan-fried beef tenderloin, Asian delights and a dessert display with freshly made-to-order soufflés, ice cream, pastries and much more.

Time: 11:30am – 3pm every Sunday from March 27 to June 30

Price: 538 yuan per person (including free flow of Baron de Rothschild) or 338 yuan buffet only, 248 yuan for children between six and 12, those under the age of five can eat free when accompanied by parents. Fifteen percent service charge applies.

Cachet Restaurant - Langham, Shanghai, Xintiandi

In this delightful season, enjoy a weekend brunch at the Langham, Shanghai, Xintiandi with your family and friends.

On top of the healthy salad bar and decadent dessert choices, guests will be treated to the dazzling seafood feast at the seafood station, featuring baby lobsters, fresh live oysters, Alaskan king crab legs and more.

The Japanese station will present fresh salmon, tuna and octopus as well as handmade sushi. The cheese station samples the Iberico Jamon of Spain and various imported cheese varieties like Spanish Manchego cheese and French Brie cheese.

Cachet also offers authentic Mediterranean “Brut” rice and risotto with Mediterranean flavors. The roasted suckling pig is also recommended by executive chef Tom Tang.

The new menu which features a tantalizing choice of small savory and sweet delights. Highlights include giant stacks of pancakes, marble cheese cakes, the Langham tiramisu, chocolate fountain, Italian gelato and more.

“From the sourcing and matching of ingredients, to the cooking techniques, all have been well thought of and meticulously pursued to impress every patron with the best brunch experience in this pleasant time of the year,” explained Albert Servalls, culinary director at Langham.

Cathay Room - Fairmont Peace Hotel

This spring, Shanghai’s landmark Fairmont Peace Hotel has created a new champagne brunch in the heart of the Bund at the Cathay Room, one of the oldest and most prestigious dining rooms in the city.

Executive chef Jeremy Harris’s brunch will feature a wide range of delicacies including Caviar on Blini, homemade foie gras terrine with a selection of house charcuterie, slow cooked salmon, Rillette market-selected sashimi, roasted Australian lamb loin, pan-roasted Atlantic black cod, grilled Boston lobster with mustard cream sauce and Passion dessert buffet.

The Cathay Room’s Eggs Benedict can be ordered with classic Paris ham or house smoked salmon and baby spinach. The sumptuous buffet is prepared using only the finest imported ingredients and all main courses are created a la minute according to each guest’s request.

The Cathay Room’s champagne brunch on the Bund also includes a tableside caesar salad cart, full seafood presentation, savory a la carte selections, a sweet treat to finish and a selection of gourmet nibbles, all accompanied by the finest wines, champagnes and digestifs from the hotel’s cellars, as selected by the Cathay Room’s sommelier.

Brunch is available on the spectacular terrace as well, offering guests the chance to dine al fresco while gazing over the city’s stunning view of the Bund.

Mosaic - Sofitel Shanghai Hyland

Mosaic is an all-day restaurant with a new casual concept and an innovative menu focusing on organic culinary creations with Western and Asian flavors.

The restaurant, located in the heart of the city’s commercial hub on Nanjing Road, offers an eclectic mix of modern Western and Asian cuisine for its Sunday brunch. With some French chic and sophistication, champagne brunch on Sundays includes foie gras, lobster, a selection of French cheese, patisseries a la Francaise and red wine.

The open interactive kitchen for cooked-to-order steaks, teppanyaki and noodle soups are just part of a culinary delight, which also includes seafood, salad, meat, and desert buffets.

Jade on 36 Restaurant’s Sunday buffet brunch with a European fusion menu created by chef de cuisine Jeremy Biasiol is a perfect way to start the day.

The Jade on Sunday concept is all about enjoying the finest things in life — friends and family, gastronomy, entertainment, art and champagne. Guests can celebrate family and friends with a brunch experience set amid spectacular views of Shanghai’s historic Bund.

Jade on Sunday brunch starts with an appetizer buffet selection, followed by unlimited main courses and ending with a dessert buffet. All the brunch creations are made with fresh seasonal produce and premium ingredients.

Appetizers are placed on open platters, including potatoes and smoked salmon salad, green asparagus, truffle vinaigrette, strawberry jam, mini crab cakes, salad, cold cuts and cheese, beetroot pana cotta and a section of soup.

The Westin Bund Center Shanghai

The hotel’s famous Sunday brunch offers two floors of food extravaganza, a free flow of Taittinger champagne, a wine buffet, a make-your-own cocktail bar and a myriad of entertainers.

Each Sunday, awe-inspiring acrobatic acts, clowns and martial arts performances are staged at the Heavenlies lounge and The Stage restaurant while a fourteen-piece string orchestra with soprano and alto perform all-time favorite arias.

To assure the little ones enjoy the brunch just as much as the adults, a kid’s corner with on-site nanny, toys, cartoons, games and food is available. Guests also get to walk away with several kinds of food vouchers at the brunch’s lucky draw and can purchase additional bottles of Taittinger champagne at a special price.

VUE Restaurant - Hyatt on the Bund

The VUE Restaurant at Hyatt on the Bund offers a sophisticated Sunday brunch featuring not only gourmet delicacies but also a free flow of champagne to be enjoyed with the direct view of the Bund landscape.

During brunch, nine cooking stations are setup in the classic European cuisine restaurant, presenting diners with cold selections, seafood, sizzling roast meats and desserts. The chefs offer tableside service for an array of seafood like freshly shucked oysters and Boston lobster. All the soups and main courses on the à la carte menu, including lobster bisque and champagne risotto with black truffles, are cooked tableside. The lobster bisque is the restaurant’s signature dish. Most of the flavor comes from the Boston lobster shell, which is simmered to create a rich stock. Warm cream is added to make the soup luscious and full of the intense lobster flavors. The champagne risotto with black truffle is an elegant and tasty dish.

Vue Restaurant has also added its signature “aux sarment” rib-eye beef to the brunch menu. The beef is simply grilled on dry vine shoots and served with freshly chopped shallots and sea salt. This century-old cooking style from the south-west of France imparts a smoky meat flavor. To complete the brunch, our tantalizing assortment of desserts is sure to satisfy and delight any sweet tooth.
