An eye for quality and feeling a tad sporty

Sheila Vance

Sheila Vance is CEO and designer of Sama Eyewear and the founder of The Sam Vance Foundation, which she named in memory of her son. Considered an industry pioneer for more than two decades, her focus on style and the creation of luxury eyewear has been embraced by trendsetters in the fashion, film and music industries.

My personal style is more focused on the quality. Quality is extremely important to me than the design and overall look. I don’t like flashy and loud fashion, more of a quiet tone but someone with style and understanding of material and quality will always recognize it. Modern with elements of classic and timeless.

I usually shop at boutiques, not department stores or malls. I’d rather find things on my own than being all lined up for me.

I have no limit in how much I can change everything. I love changes and new ideas and constantly changing. I have to limit my self so I do not overwhelm everyone around me.

My all-time favorite designer is Loree Rodkin. She is spectacular in everything she touches.

My last wardrobe addition is Decode Los Angeles eyewear.

My next fashion purchase will be new platform shoes by Hermes.

My grooming staple is my hair cut.

My favorite fashion designer is Sakai from Japan and Rick Owen.

The last book I read was “Sleepless in Hollywood” by Lynda Obst.

My signature perfume is that I mix six different fragrances and I balance it based on the weather conditions. I think having the basics and mix them as we go is the optimum solution.

Raul Mora

Italian Raul Mora has been working and living in Shanghai since 2002. Because of his background in engineering, he came to China to work in the semiconductor business. He is the China Representative of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan, which helps Italian companies enter the China market.

My personal style ranges from “fashionably” formal to “fashionably” sporty. My work environment often requires formal attire, yet I like to “hide” some hints of fashion here and there.

The best outfit I ever worn is actually the first one I ever owned. It was in the mid 1990s and the occasion was the 18th birthday party of Gaia Trussardi in her Palace in Bergamo, Italy. As you can imagine the guests were feeling some “pressure” to dress well. I got myself a custom made tuxedo by Corneliani and a pair of Church shoes.

I usually shop in Italy, most of the time in Milan. Aside from the wide range of choices, I enjoy the “shopping experience” there.

My favorite fashion brand is definitely Prada. Every time I wear a jacket or a pair of pants or shoes, I feel like they fit my body as they were designed on it.

The designer I admire the most is Miuccia Prada. In my opinion she is a genius: very creative, always one or more steps ahead of the other designers.

The style icons I used to look up to when I was a young were basically the actors of 007 movies with Sean Connery on top: a reference for elegance and charm. Now I think I’m too grown up to be interested in style icons.

The last item I’ve added to my wardrobe is a white gold cross with very small diamonds applied, hanging on a black cotton neck cord. Made by an artisan, I got it from a jewelry shop on Como Lake during my very last trip in Italy. A cool accessory for my coming summer holidays on the beach.

The fashion item I’m eying next is a Prada grey suit: great shade of grey and very particular fabric.

My grooming staple comes from the ancient Romans: “Mens sana in corpore sano” (classic Latin) which means “a healthy mind and a healthy body.” So besides working hard, I do work out frequently and definitely observe some food discipline.

My signature perfume is Prada Amber Pour Homme. I have been wearing it for years.
