Xinjiang relics take spotlight at photography exhibit
THE Shanghai Photo Exhibition has more than 500 photographs on display at China Art Museum through December 5.
The exhibition focuses on cultural and academic values, according to curator Ding He.
The series “Liusha Mingli Liang Kunlun” by Feng Qiyong features relics in Xinjiang and is one of the exhibition’s highlights.
Feng has devoted himself to studying the history and culture of China’s western regions since the 1980s. Ding joined Feng in one of his trips to research monk Xuanzang’s famous pilgrimage.
“Feng has taught me so much about the cultural relics in Xinjiang and I have also become fascinated with the subject,” Ding says. Some of his photos are also on display at the exhibition including several of ancient mural paintings.
Apart from collecting works of well-known photographers, the exhibition also offers a platform for amateurs including works by well-known local DJs Qu Cheng and Xiao Lin.
“They have their unique way of recording stories through their photos, which is very interesting,” Ding says.
