Theater for Babies

“BABY Space,” the very first theater piece for 3 to 18 month-old babies in China, will be performed at the Himalaya Arts Centre by Swedish artist Dalija Acin Thelander and a group of Chinese artists.

Dalija, who has a background in baby psychology and arts education, took the way babies concentrate as her starting point. Baby concentration, she says, is like a lantern: rather than focusing on specific points, they absorb the world as a whole. “Baby Space” reflects what she calls the “beauty of balance” — both the combination of music, dance, sound and props, as well as the intimacy and connection amongst parents, babies, dancers and the installation.

“Baby Space” is the opening piece of the A.S.K. Season, which runs from October 2016 to January 2017 and features seven dramatically different theater works from all over the world at both the Himalaya Arts Centre and A.S.K. Theater at Life Hub@Daning, Shanghai.

The seven cutting edge works for young audiences subvert the traditional theatrical experience, and have been selected by top artists from home and abroad from among 500 world-class theaters. In addition to “Baby Space,” the A.S.K. Season features “Theater in the Tent” and “Theater of Shadows” from Canada, “Theater in the Sands” from Australia, “Theater in the Paper House” and “Theatre in Dancing Hall” from UK, and “Theater of Parkour” from the Netherlands. More details of the performances are available on WeChat. “小不点大视界”
